September 14, 2017

Call to Order and Introductions – Led by Dr. Mason

Report on Summer Activities and grants activities

  • F65 Online- 1st time fully online! About 15-20 people completed.

  • Math for Struggling Learners (Williamsburg & VB locations)

  • Looking out for Grants! Let us know if you see any opportunities :)

  • STEM endorsements? Interest may lie in CTE

Plan for Creating a Mission Statement

  • Very positive feedback, meaningful but flexible to the group

  • Start thinking about what you would want to be in the statement/vision and we will begin putting it together during the Math Day Meeting

  • It may guide our screening process for vendor demonstrations

  • 30 mins. “Lunch & Learn” sessions

Math Day 2018

  • Yes - we should decide on a date!

  • Open up speaker presentation proposals EARLY

  • Due in spring

Needs Assessments: k-8 Math Specialist degree

  • Please help out with outreach - would like five people to apply by Jan 1 for Fall 2018 matriculation

  • We will send information (link to website/information/degree program)

  • Online Survey - email link and they will then forward it out

Summer Institute

  • Struggling learners, fractions, STEAM, Teaching concrete math (CRA) -manipulatives training, Statistics, Have a theme (i.e. teaching for conceptual understanding and each day could be a piece), performance tasks, softskills(collaboration etc.) in mathematics, building foundations

  • Logistics - TTAC? Include interest question on Needs Assessment

  • Discuss the differences, similarities, and share out

  • Assessments - share these too! Big and common assessments

  • Divide into subgroups and develop our own assessments

  • Open Session - for questions and solution ideas

  • Tips and trick of the day!

  • Dig deep into the standards - What part of the standard are giving teachers trouble? Students? Helpful to coach and making it timely
